Demonstrations in support of María Corina Machado show the discontent of the majority opposition in Venezuela.

A large number of Venezuelan citizens took to several places around the world to demonstrate their support to the candidacy of María Corina Machado, in view of the confirmation of the Supreme Court of Justice of her disqualification.

In several countries such as Argentina, Spain, Colombia, Mexico and the United States, many of her followers came out with flags and banners to ask for the guarantee of the political rights of the Chavista opposition candidate, who will not be able to participate in elections until 2036.

The largest demonstration took place in Madrid, where close to half a million people attended the Puerta del Sol square on Sunday, February 4. The rally was called by several Venezuelan groups and parties with the support of some Spanish right-wing and ultra-right-wing parties, such as Partido Popular and Vox.

Meanwhile, in Argentina, the demonstration was part of a day of international protests. In Argentina, demonstrations took place at the foot of the emblematic Obelisk in Buenos Aires and in the provinces of Córdoba and Mendoza.

The Venezuelan majority opposition, grouped in the Plataforma Unitaria Democrática (PUD), denounced that the Government of Nicolás Maduro intends to design anti-democratic elections contrary to what was agreed by the parties in October 2023, when they agreed on guarantees for the presidential elections scheduled for the second semester.
